Youth
Building Confident Kids - is a proactive, collaborative approach to student welfare designed to build awareness of internal strengths and resources that foster self confidence. This contributes to the development of personal resilience in young people. Through a series of purpose driven sessions provided by Camcare, the program addresses topics such as choices and positive decision making, identifying strengths in self and others, and negotiation skills.
Friends for Life - is the only childhood anxiety prevention program acknowledged by the World Health Organisation. It has been found to be effective for up to six years after initial participation. Recent analysis in Boroondara indicates that children under the age of twelve tend to fall through the service gap. 'Friends' promotes personal development concepts such as self-esteem, problem-solving, self-expression, and building positive relationships with peers and adults.
Research
Social Exclusion - The aim of this project was to scope the extent of disadvantage amongst children in Boroondara. Social exclusion amongst children in Australia is increasing, due to many factors, such as single parent families, unemployment, inadequate housing, ethnic minority status, disability and lack of educational opportunity. As a result of this study, it is estimated that 4,594 children aged under fifteen are living in poverty in Boroondara.
Family Violence : Research Project - This 2008 project was designed as an action research/consumer participation investigation into the effects of, and responses to, chronic family violence in the city of Boroondara. Extensive consultation with a broad range of community stakeholders, including specialist domestic violence services, was undertaken to determine the nature and extent of gaps in services to families affected by family violence. The project report was used to advocate for improved, coordinated responses to the effects of family violence.
Family Violence Community Development Project - Camcare obtained funding from the George Adams Tattersalls Foundation for a two year project, and appointed a project worker in August 2009. This project aims to engage the residents and community agencies in advocacy, education, training and the development of services for those impacted by family violence.
